Where Is Kodiak Island?

Kodiak Island is located off the peninsula of southern Alaska by Shelikof Strait. It’s 30 miles off the coast and about 240 miles southwest of Anchorage. 

The total population, including six main villages, is about 13,000 people. Most of the residents live in and around the city of Kodiak and its road system. 

The island is beautifully vegetated and has breathtaking mountains. Surrounded by water, you’ll be able to smell the ocean and immerse yourself in the beautiful outdoors. 

What Can You Do On Kodiak Island?

There are many activities that you can do on Kodiak Island. There is a National Wildlife Refuge center that you can visit and a laboratory aquarium and touch tank. 

There is even have a brewery that you can visit. And if you’d like to learn more about Kodiak Island, you can make your way over to the Kodiak History Museum, which serves to tell the story of Kodiak’s community and culture. 

However, one of the best things to do while you’re here is to go fishing or Sitka Blacktailed deer hunting.

If you come to Kodiak Island for deer hunting, you’ll have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We have a unique population of Sitka Blacktailed deer that will provide you with a great hunt. We can help you get to the best spots to hunt them from November to mid-December. 

As the temperature gets colder, the deer come down from the higher elevations and move into a rut, which makes the perfect hunting opportunity. You’ll have to make sure that you dress for the colder weather, including rain, snow, sleet, and hail throughout the year.
