Alaska Halibut Fishing
As one of the largest fish in the sea, wild Alaskan halibut can grow to as big as eight feet long and weigh as much as 700 pounds. Alaskan halibut is highly sought after because of its mild flavor and firm, flaky texture, and it is quickly becoming one of America’s favorite seafood dishes. To date, the largest Alaska halibut ever caught was 533 pounds. Due to the high concentration of halibut in the Gulf of Alaska, the waters off Kodiak Island provide some of the best halibut fishing available. Book your trip today!
Halibut Fishing Season in Alaska
Halibut are available all year, although fishing is best from the first of June through mid-September. They are so plentiful that we often get them while trolling in thirty feet of water for king salmon. The Sitkalidak area has some of Alaska’s best halibut fishing with all sizes available in shallow (30′ to 140′) waters with very light currents. There is no deep-water fishing in heavy currents, with pounds of weight needed to get to the bottom.
After a day out on the water, our fish processor will meet you at the dock and track your catch so you are assured of bringing home what you caught. The fish will be filleted, cleaned, and then vacuum-sealed and frozen. They are then packaged, labeled, and banded in a fifty pound insulated, airline-approved box for your trip back home.
Alaskan Halibut – Daily Per Person Limits
Daily per person limits are two halibut (May – September). There is a four halibut per person limit per calendar year. If catching two halibut in one day, one must be under 28″ and the other can be any size. There is no fishing for halibut on Wednesday.
